The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) comprises nine historically Black Greek-letter
organizations, collectively known as the Divine Nine. NPHC was created to foster cooperative
action and unify the collective impact of Black fraternities and sororities during
a time of racial segregation and limited access to higher education. These organizations
were established not only to promote scholarship and fellowship, but also to address
social inequities affecting Black communities across the United States and globally.
Rooted in the principles of service, scholarship, leadership, and social justice,
NPHC organizations have historically played a significant role in civil rights advocacy,
voter education, public health initiatives, and economic empowerment. NPHC shares
a collective commitment to community impact, cultural preservation, and expanding
opportunities for historically underserved communities.
